HIS WILDCAT
Shifting uneasily on the bed that she had been given, Birdy ran a well manicured clawed hand through her wild mane of tossled blonde hair. She stared at the roof in the room and blinked absoloutly bored out of her skull. why wasn't it sunrise yet? Why couldn't she wander now? Why did they keep her locked away like an animal? All these questions raced through her mind as she sighed and drew to sitting up. finding that her ankle was still locked to the cold frame of the bed she groaned and let out a chirp. The very distinctive call would have made her mother proud but only alerted her handler of her woken state.
[Birdy] "Let me out please! I have to go pee!"
Not the first thing you would expect a trained killer to say but it brought a chuckle from the other side of the door and she winced inwardly. She had grown to hate that chuckle. What person wouldn't? Not that it mattered. She didn't matter. Not to him and not to those who kept them here. There was a pleading tone in her voice when she had spoke and she waited silently then awaiting an answer. Knowing that if she was to move then she would not see the bathroom or even light for a great deal of time, she remained still. Her life was not her own. She hadn't earned that fully yet.
[Henry Sutter] "Good morning animal. Want to releive yourself? Think you deserve it?"
[Birdy] "Please! I really have to go! Henry I'll do whatever you want if you just let me free long enough to do that! I promise!"
[Henry Sutter] "Be careful Oncicat. I will collect on that promise later."
Birdy nodded and swollowed hard as he knelt down and unshackled her ankle. Keeping an extremely close eye on the female Hellcat. He had no reason to fully trust her unless she was restrained and openly submissive. It was rare but when she was he actually enjoyed this job. Noteably he was cruel as all handlers were to their 'pets' but then again it had perks. Moving quickly, Birdy ran full tilt towards the bathroom and not allowed to even close the door behind her, there was no shame as a releived sigh came from the small room to drown out the other more personal sounds. Cleaning herself off and flushing the toilet, she washed her hands and returned back towards Henry and the bed where she had been kept.
[Henry Sutter] "Aren't we forgetting something?"
She stopped and blinked looking over at him, thinking a moment before stepping closer half frightened but saying nothing as she leaned closer and placed a tender kiss on his cheek and then took a step back again. No smile but this was normal. She had been taken away from her brother before, for a very good reason. New tactics had been nessicary for Birdy to remain loyal and for her to obey as they wanted. She truely had to be treated as any animal. Something that they had learned about her at a very young age. The smallest ammount of even false affection kept her strong where without it she may have died before her twelveth year.
[Henry Sutter] "Better. Now sit on the bed and wait there until I get back. Understood?"
[Birdy] "Yes Henry."
He then made sure that she did as she was told but then when he saw her go to lay down his calm face went cold and he growled at her, stepping foward before she was even allowed to react and grabbing her hard by the throat, slamming Birdy back into the bed and causing her to gasp in pain and confusion. Her amber eyes sought his wildly, wanting to be releised but not daring to attack him back. His grip tightened and she started to cholk. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she fought for air. His cruel grin was the response that she got followed by his other hand comming back across her face fast and harsh, enough where a red mark immediatly formed and she cried out anguished.
[Henry Sutter] " Did I tell you to lay down?"
[Birdy] "No.....No Henry.I---I can't breathe...I'm sorry.....please...."
There were little cholked sounds as she felt herself becoming swiftly light headed and forcing herself to remain concious. He tightened it further before suddenly releasing her and stepping back just to watch her as she was sprawled out on the bed and gasping for air. She had crawled back to her knees to sit again before his harsh command came out, making her shudder and remain perfectly still.
[Henry Sutter] " Stay."
He knew that he wouldn't have to ask twice and so did she. If he had to ask more than once then she would pay dearly for it. She was given permission to go out with her brither for the day but only under his supervision. If she failed right here and now then she wouldn't be allowed that time out again for over a week. He left the room once again turning out the light and locking the door behind him. Looking over to the guard he stated simply.
[Henry Sutter] " Tell Bengal she is ready for transport."
There were no words spoken from the guard, just a simple nod in acknowlagement as he started to head off towards Bengal's quarters to deliver the news. Birdy didn't move and didn't speak and from the slit window in the door, Henry watched her in silence. Cold and distant but admiring the girl in his own way. There was no question in his mind at least of what she was....His wildcat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Bengal,..or Lucas as he called himself privately,..was waiting in his quarters quietly. He'd risen early at the call of his "handler". The roles were greatly reversed in Bengal's case. Something about him frightened the woman assigned to keep an eye on him, and made her burn inside as well. Those coal black eyes, the sneaky way his fangs crept out when she wasn't looking perhaps? It had been far too long since he'd seen his sister.
He'd missed her, little Birdy. Her real name was Birdy. Just like his real name was Lucas. His handler had let that slip in the throes of passion and she'd never breathe a word of it, too ashamed that she'd given in to him. He snorts out a chuckle and puts his book down, flexing his fingers as he heads for the door. His claws slide out and back in. He runs his tongue over his fangs and winks to the woman in the hall. Handler his ass,..she was the pet, He was the one in charge.
Bengal and Oncicat,..the Hellcats. Pride of the Weapon X programs most recent soldiers. They were an efficient team and Lucas looked forward to their assignments with SHIELD. It would mean freedom of sorts, being around his sister again. He missed her perky little voice, and her spots. He often wondered why he didn't have spots. He scents the air and smiles a little, knocking at the door of her room. He smells her, smells fear, smells her handler and bites back a growl. Handlers did their jobs too well sometimes and Lucas found himself wondering just what they had done to his sister.
Bengal ~ "Oncicat? You ready kid?"
He grins, putting on a falsely eager face, using a word that makes the older agents cringe. Playing the happy animal for those watching down the hall. Even his handler didn't know the depths of his deception. No one understood just how manipulative and coldly calculating Bengal was, but the older agents shared odd glances now and then. They remembered. Then again, someone shoulda had a clue considering.... and the young man didn't even know who his father was. Go figure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Still sitting on the bed it took Birdy a long moment to even register the voice. Never mind the question. Her pose was still as stone and yet those amber eyes flashed with that brilliant gleam of the Hellcat she had become. But still she did not move. She had not been told to move. There were many differences between the twins and this was just one. Though she never really understood it. Canting her head to the sound she chirped but then covered her mouth with her hands to stop the sound. A quick mental scolding to herself and the answer flowed smoothly from her lips, forgetting why she had been afraid before.
[Birdy] “Yes”
Henry had set out the clothing for her and stayed silent when he left, she had made the best attempt she could with dressing and didn’t think twice on the command to stay where she was. She was unable to move when like this. Very rarely could she actually take the time to argue the point or stand up for herself. It had a bad habits of seeing her beaten. The rough sound of her clawed fingertips digging into the cot, showing her frustration even if her face portrayed nothing but that odd innocent stare.
With a light shake of her head, her blonde hair tumbled over her shoulders and crashed over the smooth thick leather uniform that she wore. Birdy had been trained and exactly how they had needed for her to perform, act and react on will. Sometimes it was a wonder that her and Bengal were even from the same gene pool. Birdy was tame by comparison but much easier to control. Staying silent after the answer in that dark cell. She smiled a little and remained motionless, waiting to be told to move.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Bengal arches a brow and opens the door. His coal black eyes adjusted to the lack of light and he looked at his sister sitting on the bed. His slender frame still manages to fill a doorway much like his father.
Bengal~ "Jesus,..what are you doin' in the dark?"
He doesn't turn on the lights, but leaves the door open so light from the hallway can come in. He walks to the side of the cot and squats down in front of her, his nose twitching as he scents her. This purely animal response just part of getting to know her again. Knowing she'd been so close and kept away from him had been bugging him to death. He'd been dying to tell her what he'd found out. He reaches his hands out and touches her, his claws clicking out a little. The empathy they share would let her know quickly that he was anxious, excited, and that he loved her and he'd missed her. He'd lean his head up and bump his forehead against hers in silent greeting. Then he'd pull her to her feet and hug her tightly, his voice low against her hair.
Bengal~ "I have so much to tell you. "
He'd guide her from the room, keys jingling in his pocket. One arm firmly around her shoulders. He walks tall and proud down the hall. Like he belongs. Agents they pass nod quietly to him, some murmur his name. The empathy would have waves of barely contained excitement rolling off of him, it would be almost contagious. He couldn't wait to get out of range so they could really talk!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
From her point of view this was strange. She had looked up and even let herself to be hugged but the fact behind it was that she couldn't feel alot more than what she had been allowed. She hadn't answered the first question because there was no point. What was the point in a question that ridiculas? She was sitting of corse! Wincing against the lights, she looked away but her vision ajusted quickly and she canted her head back to her brother.
She scented the air near him back and found that recognition that she needed to ease up around him at least. Closing her eyes she leaned against him a moment longer before opening them again and blinking at him. She wasn't used to being hugged. There wasn't anything that she had found out, though she hadn't been allowed to look. So it wasn't a concern. But she smiled a little and just let herself be held. Not that she would have resisted anyway.
[Birdy] "Like?"
She smiled then. It wasn't all that often when she had been able to so it was a rare thing to see. The first thing it got her was a warning glare from her handler who though not going with her on this, was definitly watching. Birdy looked away from Henry and kept her mind on the day ahead and who was with her. There was no need to worry now right? No fear allowed. She wasn't afraid. She was going out for a day. Outside! She would be free from Henry and the others for at least a time and maybe if she behaved Bengal would let her run. That was what she wanted after all. Just that small freedom that she was rarely alloted. Feeling more like herself as she walked with him, that overy thingyy spirit that they both held from their sire was sparking to show.
[Birdy] " I want a hot dog. And a pop! Pepsi! and a soft pretzel that I can dip in salsa cheese! Are we going on a mission? What is our mission?"
There were a few blank looks exchanged in shock since she hardly ever spoke to anyone and just being with her brother brought on this new spark that no one had seen before at S.H.I.E.L.D. Henry was not happy and would show her how much later. So much later. She was not permitted to know she wasn't a weapon. She already displayed too much and he knew it. But with Bengal there it would set her into a protective mode. She was not allowed to get that way either so he would wait. This was only one day and then she was his again. A smirk came from that as he left the two alone again and started down the hall.
Feeling her heart jump a pace she canted her head to see Henry storm off and shuddered as she moved closer to her brother. But said nothing on the matter. He had a handler of his own. He should understand why she was cautious. And what she had to look foward to when she would come back. There were knowing looks from some of the guards. Especially the ones that had been prevy to hear her scream. Though she had miraculasly maintained that carefree way and half hopefull overtone, the only one that was really kept in the dark about anything about her was her brother. He was to remain oblivious for obvious reasons.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Bengal - "later..and of course you can have anything you want."
He felt Henry's eyes on them and glanced back at the man briefly. The Big dumb animal look on his face, he held his sister closer to his side as they walked out of earshot. He could feel her joy and her urge to run was one he remembered well. He leads her to his waiting car and helps her inside. Once he's behind the wheel and driving away he cuts his eyes over at her and grins, his fangs showing and claws digging at the wheel a little.
Bengal - "SHIELD trusts me...more than they should. I've learned a few things sister dear. For one thing,..we are not clones. We were born to regular parents, with real names."
He pauses to let this sink in and then continues.
Bengal - "25 years ago, we were taken from our parents, because we were among the first babies to be born after the Decimation. You learned your history right? According to what I read, our Mother passed away not long after we were taken."
He grips the wheel, it flies faster over and under other cars. The SHIELD insignia on the side giving him liberties that other flyers didn't get. He sees trees of Central Park down below and smiles.
Bengal - "Our Father is still alive. Now,..only he will know our full names,..but I did find out what they called us when we were babies. Your name is supposed to be Birdy. Mine is supposed to be Lucas. So,...when we're outside,..we can't use our codenames anyway,..so whadda ya say Birdy? Wanna play frisbee?"
He grins and lowers the car down to a parking space, a wide open soccer field stretches out before them, lined with full rich green trees. Not far away is a hot dog stand that also sells pretzels. In other words paradise! 4 years and they'd never been allowed to really play as children. Lucas wanted to give her this. He pulls a bright red frisbee from under the driver's seat and holds it up. His coal black eyes glinting.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Birdy grinned then and thought about all the delightful things that they could possibly get into. Though it took her very little to get distracted, she fell silent as she listened. There was only the briefest spark of acknowledgement before she froze out the words. Where Bengal had retained some of what he was, she had lost a great deal of herself. Lucas…that name sat odd with her and as much as she was trying to figure out why she couldn’t comprehend it fully the way she should have. So she cringed.
[Birdy] “Animal….Oncicat….Animal….Weapon…Animal…..”
Her mind reeled with this and she felt lost, her voice cracking near the last word as her hands balled into fists and her clawed fingernails dug into her palms , drawing blood, then extended straight into her palms. Though the look she sported was of rage. There was no serenity. Hurt, sorrow and much more anger then should have been . The steady dripping of the coppery red fluid staining the upholstery.
[Birdy] “Why? Why didn’t he come for us? He…..he could have tried! Why? Lazy Bastard! I….I have no father!”
Tears streaked her cheeks and she looked away out the window again before sighing softly and leaning her head against the seat itself. Her mood shifts of course when they landed and that anger melted away without a pause. She laughed then and looked back to Lucas with a playful grin. Eyeing the Frisbee. Then clapping her hands once before making a grab for it. Amber eyes lighting up as she felt that comfort from her brother that no one else could provide her.
[Birdy] “Gimme the Frisbee already Lucas! Let’s play!”
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucas frowns, eyes narrowed, angry and gripped the steering wheel hard.
Lucas- "Birdy. You are a mutant,..not a damn animal. Just cause that bastard treats you like one doesn't mean you are. Weapon yes,..animal no."
He looks at her and his features soften. What had they done to her? It tore at his heart and his fangs slid out, cutting his tongue. He sucked the blood from his mouth and took a deep breath. She was so hurt, He shrugs.
Lucas- "Sis,..c'mon. You don't know the whole story okay,..I'm sure he'd have come for us if he'd known where to look. Let's just play a while okay? we'll talk more about it later.."
He manages a smile and opens her door. Tossing the frisbee into the air, it sails away so she can chase after it. He locks the car up behind him, after pulling a folder from the backseat and tucking it under his arm. She'd called him Lucas...it was a start.
Lucas - "Go get it Birdy!"
The folder contained everything he'd been able to find about the Man who's DNA matched his. A long time criminal, wanted and pardoned many times over. He had never officially registered, but his DNA and powers were on file under the alias "Sabretooth". He'd once been part of the Weapon X program and had eluded capture many times. He was now supposedly somewhere over 100 years old,..but his precise age was unknown. Lucas had not found any photos of the man himself,..but had found many archived mission files regarding "the Animals". A team of Sabretooth and another Weapon X project named "Wolverine". He lay the folder down with his jacket on a bench and prepared for a game of frisbee in the park.
