History:
Shyla Lovecraft was born to an Amish family in the Amish Country of Lancaster PA. Her family has been living and farming in the area since the founding of it, one of the older families in the community. Her birth hadn't been extrodinary, nor had her childhood. She had grown up like any other Amish child, with a firm belief in the ways, working hard on her families farm, and attending school in the one room school house...making sure to always be her best behaved in church and Sunday school, resting on the sabbath. She had attended school until the 10th grade, having at 15, met the requirements of the United States Laws, one of the very few the Yankees imposed on the Amish commmunity. After her graduation, she had stayed at home, helping her family in whatever ways were needed, mastering the womanly skills of cooking, cleaning, and handywork, as was required in the Man run community. Shyla had been raised womanly, skilled, and very humble. She had been cursed, as her mother called it, with looks that would inspire pride and vanity, two of the things that were most looked down upon in the Community. Combined with a happy go lucky, and often times mischevious spirit, her parents had punished her soundly and made sure to teach her the utmost humilty, saying she would need it more then most to fight her natural weakness.
Fearing for his daughters salvation and soul, Shyla's father had found a suitor for her as soon as possible. A strapping boy, not the most handsom man in the village, but smart and kind, two things Shyla would rather have. They had quickly made a match of it, and the families were pleased to see just how fond of each other the two seemed, when they had little dinners, meetings, or walked home together after church. They wouldn't have been so pleased to find out that they were also sneaking around, behind their parents backs, stealing private moments to touch hands, to hug, even a kiss or two on the cheeks. Totaly forbidden, outrageous, and Shunnable, by Amish laws and standards. It was durring one of these such stolen moments that they snuck up into Shyla's Father's hay loft. They had decided to actualy try kissing...something neither of them had experience, at least, not in the way a woman and a man do it. Shyla felt the strangest sensations of her life, but when her fiancee said he felt the same thing, she chalked it up to nerves. She should have paied closer attention, but how was she to even anticipate what could possibly happen?
While kissing, the strange sensation built and built...unable to control herself, she gave into the urges with a sound she never thought she'd ever make...and suddenly...there was four Shyla's on the loft. She screamed, panicking, sure it was the devils work, and her fiancee panicked, falling out of the hay loft and onto some threshers and farm tools below. He was cut in half. Panicking, Shyla ran down to the barn floor, her multiples following. Caught between praying to god, cursing the devil and holding up a cross against her own multiples, and putting her hands on the bloody and severed midsection of her almost dead fiancess...a miracle happened. With a flash of light, and another strange, this time draining sensation, the man was healed. However, he was not greatful. Screaming about her being a witch, she panicked and backed up into her multiples. Touching one, it disspeared...grabbing for the others, they were gone, one by one. Shyla didn't manage to get rid of them though, before the barn was full of astonished, and panicking Amish people. They had seen the flash to heal, and the multiples being absorbed, dissapearing, back into Shyla; they joined in with the screams of witch. The council was called and Shyla was locked into her room, panicking and praying for Five days straight, denied food and only given the barest amount of water, her beautiful hair shorn, flesh torn to pieces by a caning from her mother who was trying to beat the devil out of her. The concil finaly came out from its meeting and Shyla was dragged to the church, tied and beaten, the crowd screaming cries of the devil. The concil proclaimed that this was a shame she had brought upon herself and said that she would be punished by a permanent shunning. She was to take what her family deemed to give her, and sent out into the modern world of the Yankees.
Still totaly confused as to what had happened and what she was,Shyla gathered what her parents would give her, and was driven by wagon to a drop off point, told to fend for herself. Panicking, Shyla curled up, wailing and praying to god, heart broken...and unaware of the person who was waiting for her. She was starteled by the soft touch of hands on her back, smoothing over her head and looked up tearfully at a woman who looked...just like her family. It would turn out that the woman was her Aunt, her mothers sister, who had been outcast and shunned in much the same way, when she was a teenager years before Shyla was born. She explained to the frightened girl that she was a mutant...that the reason she could do whatever it was that she had done, was because she had a gene that made it so. Not really understanding any of it, her Aunt and taken her into the city where she lived...New York. Dazed by the sights and sounds, having seen next to nothing of technology and the modern world, her aunt let her adjust for a few days, heal, before she told Shyla the truth about herself. Shyla accepted it with a grace and understanding that her Aunt was thankful for and they worked at enrolling her in a local program to get her her high school education. 16 years of age, Shyla had graduated in a year and a half with her GED, and then enrolled at NYU to get her nursing degree. Her Aunt supported her and tried to help make the intial transition into the Yankee world easier. Shyla soon learned there was a lot that put her at a disadvantage, having to learn all of the thngs kids seemed to grow up with, in New York, but at the same time her background gave her a steadfastness and kindness that was rare in the city. Having gotten her degree, and found work at the local hospital, Shyla had moved into a small apartment, devoting herself to learning and work. She really has only one friend...a martial arts instructor, also a mutant, named Jason. He teachs her bit by bit, how to work with her Multiples,l and how to defend herself, introducing her to the modern world day by day, even teaching her to drive...or trying to. That is where we find Shyla now...
